June 4
Facilitating Community Dialogue
Doak Bloss will demonstrate how a group’s creativity and wisdom can be nurtured to generate answers to a Focus Question by moving through the specific sequence of inquiry:  1) perception; 2) reflection; 3) interpretation; and 4) decision. 

 

July 9
Listening and Questioning Skills

John Sarver will share some training exercises and experience from being a volunteer mediator.

 

August 6
The Diffusion Process
Jack Pyle will share insights into the Diffusion Process -- how a group adopts new ideas. He'll describe the science behind word-of-mouth marketing and lead a dialogue about how we can foster positive change in mid-Michigan.

 

September 10
Radical Collaboration

Norma Bauer will share strategies and exercises in "Radical Collaboration" (Tamm and Luvet) to help answer questions such as…

"How do we build successful relationships with people in organizations responsible for toxic waste dumps, building and marketing gas-guzzling vehicles, when we continue to subsidize private vehicles but underfund non-motorized and public transit?"

 

"How do we stay true to our principles without letting our passion for a sustainable world wreck our efforts and turn off potential partners with tremendous power?" 

 

Participants with have an opportunity to share their successes in building successful relationships.
