Smart Commute
from Jessica Yorko

The Smart Commute '05 website is nearly finished, and has lots of good information about bike routes (including step by step directions and maps), bus info, bike parking, check-in points, how to register online, and more.

The event website is at: www.midmeac.org/smartcommute

What We Can Do?

Many of the "powers that be" seem to feel that digging faster will get us out of the hole.  (i.e. stronger military, more force, tougher standards, more control, more laws, etc.)...  Here are some alternative approaches to consider...

Perhaps it's more important though to continue asking the question.  The truth is that there are many "paths" that emerge in the present.  To the extent that we are "in the present" we will be more conscious of opportunities and to the possibilities of creating the world we wish to see... Now!

...about Peace...

Thanks to Paul Babladelis and all of you who helped make the Peaceful and fun equinox event successful last month! I was blown away by how many people are personally taking the responsibility to "be the change they wish to see."  I

For me, this was a chance to learn a lot from you.  I developed a resource page here to share some info that doesn't seem to make the headlines on a regular basis.

FYI:  Why isn't the media covering "how much do we (yes, you and I) spend on weapons of mass destruction and military-related expenses?"  Thanks to Anebel Dwyer and Jim Anderson for some fricken scary stats on this issue...

about Health...

I'm working with Ingham County Health Department, Michigan Dept of Community Health, MidMEAC, Rails to Trails, and three neighborhood groups to determine policies and actions we can make/take to improve our health and the health of our communities.  MDCH has prepared several wonderful tools to help us and others move forward.  Learn more at www.CACVoices.org/mocth

From sustainability standpoint... where do we start?

about Education?

This slideshow (which takes a few minutes to download - 2 MB) describes how I'm attempting to nurture a student-centered and brain-friendly classroom at Lansing Community College.  Click here.  Thanks to the Bailey Scholars for helping me teach and learn about these approaches to successful learning, living, thinking, and being together in community.

State Tests "Green" Products
from Harmony Gmazel

Michigan's premier green spaces will be even more "green" this year.

Parks and Rec. in partnership with DEQ, will test and promote environmentally-friendly products in state parks, harbors and boating access sites. Projects this summer include using biodiesel fuel and green cleaning products and reducing the frequency and the amount of grass mowed at parks.....
