Buddhist Economics Part II
from Susan Witt
In his now classic essay "Buddhist Economics," Fritz Schumacher imagines an economic system informed by the teachings of the Buddha. Key to such a system is simplicity and non-violence.

More Quotes from "Buddhist Economics" by Ernest Friedrich Schumacher"From a Buddhist point of view . . . non-renewable goods must be used only if they are indispensable, and then only with the greatest care and the most meticulous concern for conservation. To use them heedlessly or extravagantly is an act of violence, and while complete non-violence may not be attainable on this earth, there is nonetheless an ineluctable duty on man to aim at the ideal of non-violence in all he does."

Money
by Lloyd ThomasExcerpt:
"Perhaps we need to realize that money is not a question of whether or
not we make it or have it. Rather it is a question of HOW we make it,
and HOW we use it. If we see money as symbolizing energy, we realize
we can use it wisely or foolishly; generously or selfishly; freely, or
with greedy attachment."

Stress
Test
Kassandra Ray Smith/
The photo below has two almost identical dolphins in it.
It was used in a case study on stress levels with patients at St. Mary's Hospital. Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical. A closely monitored, scientific study revealed that in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person under stress will find differences in the two dolphins. If there are many differences found between the dolphins, it means that the person is experiencing significant amount of stress.
Look closely at the photograph.
If you find more than one or two differences you may want to take a vacation.

- David Bohm http://www.muc.de/~heuvel/dialogue/...it is proposed that a form of free dialogue may well be one of the most effective ways of investigating the crisis which faces society, and indeed the whole of human nature and consciousness today. Moreover, it may turn out that such a form of free exchange of ideas and information is of fundamental relevance for transforming culture and freeing it of destructive misinformation, so that creativity can be liberated."

Well... I didn't make any resolutions yet. But I woke up this morning
with an empty feeling in my soul, and a few cool thoughts about life.
I often wake up with interesting and promising ideas in the making. The
brightness of day quickly clouds my inner visions, unless I write'm down.
This morning I pledged to jot a few of these ideas down as soon as possible,
so as not to lose them. This brief 1-pager is partially inspired by a
quote I read recently in Conversations with God: "I go within, or I
go without."
