In an era of information overload, clear and useful medical advice is often buried under a lot of bullshit.
The doctor's office isn't much help. In the typical visit, you'll learn more in the 45 minutes you spend in the waiting room than the 5 minutes you'll spend with him or her.
Don't ask a major university. You'll get a different answer at every ivory tower you scale.
Don't trust the latest alternative therapy either… though you might be getting a little closer.
Sure, there are good doctors, scholars, and alternative practitioners. From my perspective, the best ones will tell you where you can find the best answers…
Within.
Health comes from within.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of money riding on external "solutions" For a multinational corporation to embrace and market this message could be perceived as "unhealthy" for the bottom line. We have created a crisis in that our medical-industrial complex thrives on disease.
How much money would we save if we spend this money on wellness… investments in our personal and community health?
So where do we start?
First, we must take responsibility for the state we're in… Who are we giving our money too? How much faith do we put in television commecials? In doctors?
Sure, when we are sick, we want someone to help us get better. Gosh, we demand it, for the prices we pay! We gotta get our money's worth, don't we!
I wonder how much others capitalize on our fears, to sell us shit we don't need… fear of microbes, fear of death, or fear of a loved one getting sicker?
Our society spends billions on "health care" and the costs keep rising.
Looking within is the place to begin. This is simple, but not easy. We must conquer some fears and change our beliefs. We need a vision of health. We need to see it and feel it and believe it.
We can find some help from others, but not where we're taught to look for it. We don't have to look too far to find people who are leading healthy and happy lives. Perhaps a mother, father, sister or brother. These people can teach us -- or better, REMIND US -- of healthy beliefs and habits.
Once we have a vision and belief that health and happiness is possible for us -- and that we don't need the latest quick fix, drug, or toy to make us that way -- we can begin to listen to our own internal health guide. Instead of reaching for the nearest phone, pain reliever, or drug the moment we feel pain, we must learn to pause and learn from our pain. Are we holding our body in certain way? Are we eating, drinking, and breathing well? Are we getting enough rest and exercise? Are we having enough fun? Are we living in fear that we're not doing the right thing? Are we really living? Look within for these answers and find a wealth of health.
