It is my pleasure to announce at long last our new Michigan Trails Finder! It is being brought to you as a product of the Connecting Michigan Project. This is a new digital online resource for both single and shared-use trails, linked with information for planning your next trail adventure.  It includes: Length, Surface, Allowed Trail Uses, Interactive Links to Individual Trail Websites, GPS coordinates (where available), and contact information.

This is only a start.  We hope that you will offer us your input as you review it and use it.

Feb 25  Canvas: A film to raise awareness about mental illness

CMH-CEI and NAMI of Lansing will feature the movie "Canvas" on February 25th at the  Hannah Community Center Auditorium.  Times and details are on the attached flyer.  A story of a family whose wife/mother has Schizophrenia, the film is based on a true story.  A short panel discussion will follow the film.  Click here.

Allen Neighborhood Center's annual  Breast Health Luncheon, scheduled for Tuesday, February 26, 11:30 am - 1 pm.  This lively, fun and informative event will feature Dr. Margaret Aguwa as our guest speaker.  Dr. Aguwa, MSU Professor of Family and Community Medicine, an osteopathic physician, and expert on breast cancer is known for her tireless efforts to empower, advocate for, and serve minority and non-traditional groups.   Click here

If you want to make your gardening easier, try adding native plants which thrive in Michigan and will attract birds and butterflies to the garden. Learn how to design and maintain a native garden at the Harris Nature Center, 3998 Van Atta Road on Tuesday March 11 at 7:00 pm. The class will be taught by Vern Stephens of Designs by Nature. Capital Area District Library has chosen Inconvenient Truth, by Al Gore, as its countywide read for 2008.  Discussions of the book will be taking place in all14 branches and will be featured in area bookstores.  As a culminating event, a panel of three presenters have been invited to discuss topics ranging from overview of global warming (Steve Curwood, author and host of the NPR program Living on Earth); to an idea of what a community can do ( David Konkle, Energy Coordinator for the City of Ann Arbor); to a very personal account of living sustainably (author Judith Levine, Not Buying It:  My Year Without Shopping).
