Help Me Help You Get the Word Out

You asked for one.  You got it!    An easy-to-use community calendar!

ALL ARE WELCOME and encouraged to give this FREE tool a try.

See a current calendar I've created for our Healthy Community Network which combines calendars from 6 groups (some of whom have created calendars but not posted anything recently).

"But it seems like more work!"

Response:  This doesn't have to take any more time than what you already spend if you do a calendar.  In fact, the handy form/fields make it easier to use than most I've tried.  In addition, you'll save time contacting others, promoting your events, and getting events posted in other's calendars.

Ready?  Have your "calendar person" contact me at 505-2809 or leroy@leroyharvey.net and provide a couple short tips to get you started.

Local Bike News

Bike Safety Article and Responses   -Tim Potter

Hello fellow cyclists,

Just read some of the responses to the recent front-page article in the LSJ about bike safety.  I’ve personally never read such hatred towards cyclists and hope I don’t encounter any of these motorists on my commute.  It’s very shocking reading and might give you a healthy-dose of fear to read if you regularly ride among these motorists who see us as “self-righteous snobs” blocking (or just slowing) their way on the roads.

Please read it and try react in some constructive way to help improve the mindset if you can, either in your own Letter to the Editor to the LSJ or as you get the chance to talk to motorists on the roadways.

By all means, please obey the road laws, wear very bright reflective clothing, use strong flashing strobe lights front and rear ALL the time (shady areas over the roads make you invisible or at least very hard to see if a motorist is still in the bright light of day) and check your mirror often!

Fixed Gear News - Tim Potter

For those of you interested in the “Fixie” or fixed-gear bike phenom sweeping the country I’ve created a web page for you: www.bikes.msu.edu/fixed

MSU Bikes will be closed this week for computer training and inventory. Please consider visiting one of the other local bike shops in the area.

Bike Valet Parking Attendant:  It's not just a volunteer job!   - Phil Wells

Don't miss this opportunity to volunteer at the Folk Festival!

"Bike parking volunteers get training (though not much is needed!), chairs, a tent for shade, snacks, refreshments, a chance to make new friends and an opportunity to promote bicycling. All volunteers receive an official GLFF volunteer T-shirt, an invitation to the volunteer/performer party on Saturday night, access to the “Green Room.”   (more free beverages and snacks) and other perks."
