Allen Street Farmers Market
STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL!
Wednesday, June 25, 2008
2:30 - 7:00pm

Our summer has truly arrived when Michigan strawberries return to the market.  Felzke Farms, Nodding Thistle Farm, and the Vangs are supplying us with berries galoreClark Sugarbush has been offering a wonderful variety of potted herbs and flowers, and Green Eagle continues to bring herbs, delicious greens, and more.  In fact, a smorgasboard of of fresh greens and so much more will be available from Wildflower, Giving Tree, the Vangs, Nodding Thistle, and the Thao's.   Please join us in welcoming the Grams back to the market this week.  Mooville Dairy has the best dairy products you'll ever taste, and a wide variety of foods and baked goods are offered by the East Lansing Food Coop, Alice's Kitchen, Green River Cafe, and Gone Wired.  Kathy Kuhn's hand crafted items and Kathleen Parker's incredible herbal products will be joined by two other local craft vendors.  Kimi Danford is back with those dessert sauces that make anything taste divine!

ANC's guest organization in the Big Tent this week is the 35 year old Eastside Neighborhood Organization (ENO).  Stop by their table in the Big Tent to learn more about their scope of programs.  You will continue to find the ANC Outreach Team promoting breast health with samples of delicious cancer-fighting foods, ANC Program info, the Food Chatter Table, Kid's Table, and the Cafe.

Hello to the Yard Sign Corps!

See you at the Market!

Warm Regards,
Hollie

LEED Interest Circles
- Gavin Gardi

We have scheduled the next 7 LEED-NC Interest Circle (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) meetings from 9:00am to 11:00am on the 3rd Thursday of the month from July 2008 through January 2009. Based on the experience of other groups and the interest areas expressed at the kick-off meeting we have decided to try a variation of the LUG (LEED User Group) Meetings that the West Michigan Chapter holds on a monthly basis. So the LEED-NC Interest Circle meetings will cover one section of the LEED-NC rating system each month in order to develop knowledge of the rating system, share insights & experiences and learn about sustainable construction in general.

Meeting Date           Topic

  • July 17, 2008            Overview

  • August 21                 Sustainable Sites

  • September 18          Water Efficiency

  • October 16               Energy & Atmosphere

  • November 20           Materials & Resources

  • December 18           Indoor Environmental Quality

  • January 15, 2009    Innovation in Design and Recap

All LEED-NC Interest Circle meetings will be held in the lower level meeting room at The Christman Building. Hope you can join us.

Bike Film Fest
- Tim Potter

For those of you looking for something truly out of the ordinary this weekend, the Bicycle Film Fest is happening this weekend in Toronto:

http://bicyclefilmfestival.com/2008_site/toronto/

If you’re not familiar with the BFF, it’s a film fest all about bikes that circles the globe every year now since the year 2000.  Here’s their home page:http://bicyclefilmfestival.com

If you can’t make Toronto, consider Minneapolis coming up Jul. 9 – 12th: http://bicyclefilmfestival.com/2008_site/minneapolis/

There’s also great trailers that you can watch online thru their site if you can’t go to any of the above; I’ve been successful in getting our local library (CADL) to stock different indie films, so if you find one you really like please put in a request to CADL and then let us all know if it becomes available.

Someday I’d like to do a mini-BFF right here at MSU/E. Lansing/ Lansing.  Anyone interested in helping out with such an effort drop me a line.

On the topic of bike movies, if you’ve never checked out our extensive movie library here in the Center you can browse our list online here (these are available for loan for free for a week):

Hope you’re enjoying these great riding days and saving tons of $$,
