Millage Meeting on Farmland and Open Space Preservation
- Land Policy Institute

The Ingham County Agriculture Preserve Board has been actively lobbying the County Board of Commissioners (BOC) to place farmland and open space preservation on the ballot since the county ordinance was passed on July 27, 2004. At the April Ingham County Board Leadership meeting the BOC recommended moving forward to place a .14 millage increase for farm and natural land preservation on the August 2008 Ballot.

The Committee for the Ingham County Land Preservation Millage is hosting a kick-off meeting at 7:30pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the University Lutheran Church in East Lansing to begin the necessary work of gearing up for a campaign. They are looking for enthusiastic individuals passionate about protecting the natural resource base of Ingham County to participate in the campaign. For more information, contact Stacy Sheridan at 517.410.0833.

Dynamic Governance:  A New Way of Organizing

Don't miss an opportunity to learn about Dynamic Governance, this Saturday (May 3rd) at the Sustainable Community Dialogue, from 10am-noon, 405 Grove St. in East Lansing.

Dynamic governance is a way of producing organization in any group of people with a common aim. If offers both structure and technique for getting things done.  D.G. was adopted nationally by the U.S. Green Building Council, the national organization that is developing LEED* (using D.G).

* LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:

  • sustainable site development

  • water savings

  • energy efficiency

  • materials selection

  • indoor environmental quality.
