Reuse/Recycling/Disposal Event for Books, Documents,
Polystyrene, Large Metals, Bicycles and Pharmaceuticals

Many unusual
items will be accepted at the spring collection event!

BOOKS
Hard cover and paperback books will be collected, offered for sale during
the event and then given to literacy non-profit organizations. Books that
are totally unusable will be recycled along with phone books. Please
separate your books by fiction and nonfiction.

DOCUMENT
SHREDDING
Documents will be destroyed on site while you watch and the paper then
recycled.

FOAM
Polystyrene from packaging, cups, food trays, etc. will be collected for
recycling and should be put into clear plastic bags. Packing “peanuts” will be accepted for re-use and should be put into separate
clear plastic bags. Thanks to Dart
for helping.

LARGE
METAL
Large metal items such as refrigerators, washers, sinks, microwaves and
scrap metal will be collected for recycling with help from
Meridian Plumbing. There is a $15 fee to reclaim
refrigerant from all air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, freezers,
etc.

BICYCLES
Bicycles will be accepted for re-use with help from
MSU Bikes. They do not have to be in working
order.

OLD
MEDICINES
All forms of prescription and nonprescription pharmaceuticals as well as
veterinary medicines will be collected for environmentally safe disposal.
Bring them in their original container if possible. Controlled substances
will be disposed of under the direction of a police officer. Guidelines will be available soon.
Plastics,
green glass, corrugated cardboard and boxboard will NOT be accepted at
this event. Plastics #1-7 are now collected at the
MSU Recycling Center.
Corrugated cardboard and boxboard are collected at most
recycling centers. Green
glass in not being accepted for recycling anywhere in the Greater Lansing area
(that we know of).
