If you missed the last update, here are some upcoming recycling events in September and October... details here (PDF). Options include pharmaceutical waste, electronics, all colors of glass, books, and much more! Here is more on the Oct. 11 event in Meridian.
Compact Fluorescent Bulbs
Everywhere you look, CFLs brightening our world. It's no wonder -- they use 1/3 the energy of comparable incandescent bulbs and prices have plummeted. Unfortunately, most still contain trace amounts of mercury and should be disposed of safely. Home Depot, Ingham County, and Lansing Board of Water and Light can help. More here
New Recycling Facility
A new facility will open this month at 841 Timberlane in E. Lansing (between Hagadorn and Park Lake, off Burcham - see map)
"Out-of-the-bin" Thinking
Question:
Gas is expensive! How can I minimize resource consumption hauling recyclables around?
Answers: (recycled from several wise folks)
Planning your trips wisely can also save a ton of CO2, not to mention gas money. Combine visits with your neighbor! There are seven other free drop-off centers in Ingham County besides the Meridian Recycling Center including a new facility (see below).
Some of these might be convenient for you or a friend to walk or bike to. One of these might be right on your way to school, work, church, or play!
Sometimes a community group or scout group will pick up and haul material from an entire neighborhood. There are several regional events planned for the coming weeks. See the calendar.
If you have recycling and/or green tips or questions to share in a future update, please let me know!
