I don't want to sound like a broken record -- But "Wow" -- this was an
awesome event! This is not a surprise -- given the immense support of
100+ volunteers, an awesome "Special Events Committee," a over a dozen
business and nonprofit sponsors, several supportive local governments
(Meridian, Ingham County, East Lansing), friendly local media, our fearless
leaders Barbara Reeves, and hundreds of patient and helpful participants!

Guide
did you know...?
-
One inch of rain falling
on a 1,000 ft2 roof harvests as much as 600 gallons of
rainwater.
-
Rain Barrel use reduces
rainwater run-off that carries sediment, grease,
pesticides and fertilizers into local waterways.
-
Rain Barrel use reduces
soil erosion and improves the ability of rainwater to
infiltrate soil at a reduced intensity.
-
Residents save their
municipalities valuable tax dollars by rainwater
harvesting. In the United States alone outdoor water use
makes up between 25% and 58% of total household tap
water use.
-
Rain Barrel use helps
minimize sewer overflows during heavy rainfalls thereby
reducing storm water overflow carrying pathogens,
solids, debris and toxic pollutants into local surface
water.
-
As global water supplies
diminish, rainwater harvesting will become a crucial
water conservation practice.

Green Star businesses were recognized on April 20th. More on the Green
Star initiative at

Green Lodging
When you vacation, why not stay in "green lodging" and
support hotels and motels that are helping the environments? If
they're not on board yet, ask them to "go green."
