Neighborhood Power!

Our Citizen Recycling Committee is hoping to work more with neighborhoods this coming year to promote recycling opportunities!   If you are involved with a neighborhood group and would like to help get the word out about recycling options, please contact recycle@meridian.mi.us !   Take a look at this neighborhood list  and let us know (853-4466) if you have any changes or suggestions!

Eyeglass Recycling
- Lary Hill

We have a dozen locations where used glasses, sunglasses and even hearing aids may be deposited in our Lions Boxes. Eventually, these are sent to a correctional institution near Ionia where trained inmates carefully clean them and then assess the exact prescription for each pair. These are then packaged and appropriately labeled as to prescription, inventoried and boxed for future missions by Lions and other organizations into needy areas in Central and South America, Africa and European nations. Click here for a list of locations

Recycle Construction/Building Materials March 6th!

Mark your calendars:  March 6th and April 3rd from 11am - 2pm at the Meridian Recycling Center & Transfer Station, 5976 E. Lake Drive in Haslett.

Many of us have some building supplies, tools, cabinets, fixtures, windows, doors, lumber, etc. taking up space in our homes and businesses.  Here's a great chance to recycle it!   Habitat for Humanity is partnering with Meridian Township to host two special collections!

Please Note:  Habitat will not take EVERYTHING.  Materials must be in good condition and meet these  material acceptance guidelines.  For example, lumber must be nail-free and free of rot, water damage, and twisting/bowing.   Meridian Township regularly accepts non-compactable "waste" at the Recycling Center for $27/cubic yard ($7 minimum) and compactable waste for $20/cu. yard or $2/30 gal. bag.     Materials are accepted at several of Habitat's ReStores in Williamston, Lansing, and Mason as well.

Welcome Meridian's New Recycling Center Attendant

Please welcome new Recycling Center attendant Cliff McNamara!  Cliff describes himself as "good-looking, easy-going, and not available ;-)"  He is has been with the Township over 17 years, and still has a good sense of humor --  especially when you break down your cardboard boxes :-)      A big thanks to Keith Hewitt for many months of service in the heat, cold, rain, and snow.

Bloom Box: An Energy Breakthrough?

Fed Ex, WalMart, and Google have purchased these and claim they work!  They are a low-cost fuel cell that can run on landfill gas or natural gas but use half as much as a traditional power plant.
