Dear Recyclers,

Here's a quick update on Recycling in Meridian Twp.

Recycling/Re-Use Event Amazes

Over 35,000 lbs of material were collected on April 26th at the Meridian Market. Thousands of books were re-distributed or sold. Over 80 volunteers contributed time and energy. A full report will be posted on the web in the next few days.

Citizen Committee Receives Award

Congratulations to our Citizens Recycling Advisory Committee! This group will receive an Environmental Stewardship Award from the Meridian Environmental Commission. Committee members are encouraged to attend the meeting tonight at 7pm in the Township Hall (Wednesday the 21st).

Summer and Fall Events

Check the calendar regularly for upcoming events of interest including a "Special Recycling Plastic Containers from Planting" at VanAtta's, another chance to recycle colored glass, telephone books, and polystyrene TBA in July at Meridian Mall, and an October 11th event for #3-7 plastics, clear & colored glass, telephone books, and more at the Meridian Service Center. Call Barbara at 337-1705 with questions or to volunteer to help.

Employee Recycling Grows

Employees of Meridian Twp have recycled over a ton of office and mixed paper during the past month! Tip: please don't put brown or goldenrod envelopes in the blue bins. These can go with magazines and newspapers in the brown bins. More waste reduction tips for all employees at www.re-news.net/meridian/stop_junk_mail.htm

Volunteers needed for Project Pride:

One of our "sister recycling groups" could really use some volunteers on May 31. Call Susan Schmidt at 333-3587 Susan has been helpful in coaching us on our special events here in Meridian.

New Discussion Forums

Two new discussion forums have been created on google groups to share information about recycling. One is a general recycling list and the other is business related. See www.re-news.net/meridian for detail.

Many thanks to all of you who've made this work possible and enjoyable!

Sincerely,

LeRoy
