Dear Neighbors,
The City of East Lansing is inviting public comment on potential improvements to Hagadorn Road.
If you are willing to share your opinions on this matter, PLEASE READ ON…
WHAT?
The City has hired DLZ Michigan, Inc. and created a Stakeholder Committee to
determine “optimal transportation facilities” for Hagadorn Road between Haslett
Rd. and Grand River Ave.
WHAT CAN I DO?
Send comments to Todd Sneathen (Director of Public Works) at
tsneath@cityofeastlansing.com. Please CC Wes Butch at DLZ
at
wbutch@dlz.com
and LeRoy at
harveyL3@msu.edu.
IS THERE A DEADLINE
FOR COMMENTS?
I’m not sure, but NOW is probably a good time! If you send them by Monday
or Tuesday, they’re more likely to arrive by the next Stakeholder Committee
meeting on Wednesday eve.
WHO?
You! Perspectives from those who live and/or work in East Lansing are
particularly encouraged at this time.
WHAT SHOULD I SAY?
While many of you probably share an interest in a more pedestrian and
bike-friendly roads and neighborhoods – please share your thoughts even if you
disagree with this perspective. If you’d like more information on this topic,
visit
www.re-news.net/cto . This site also has a link to MidMEAC’s website where
you can voice your support for bike lanes in the entire region. There
are about 25 other roads in the Lansing area that are ripe for “buffer lanes”,
wide shoulders, road diets, etc.
WHAT’s YOUR
PERSPECTIVE?
Since you asked ; - )… I feel that walkable and bikable roads/communities are
key to a healthy, sustainable, affordable, safe, clean, attractive, and fun
community. (Plus -- they’ll make a much greater dent in our oil dependence than
ethanol or biodiesel ever will). A road diet on Hagadorn (3 auto lanes, 2 bike
lanes) and other roads in the area, will have a huge positive impact on the
entire region. There may be some mild inconvenience for a few people, but
traffic flow rates may actually improve, sidewalks and roads will feel much
safer for all – including motorists.
WHAT IF I ALREADY
WROTE A LETTER/E-MAIL?
Please do so again. Several of you have already commented – THANK YOU. You can
say the same thing if you like. See past comments that I’m aware of at
www.re-news.net/marble/hagadorn.htm or
http://www.re-news.net/marble/hagadorn/october_letters_from_citizens.htm
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
Enjoy the summer! Take a walk! Spread the word! Share this e-mail with
others. If you have questions, please feel free to e-mail me at
harveyL3@msu.edu or call me at 505-2809.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your perspectives… even if you disagree with me.
Sincerely,
LeRoy Harvey
