As a follow up to a previous email, a temporary 3 lane configuration is
not an option for Hagadorn Road. The project is three phases i.e.
northbound construction, southbound construction and final paving, and
during each phase of the project, temporary striping will be installed.
We will then proceed to the next phase. We are only able to proceed to
the next phase with two way traffic if the temporary striping is
installed similar to the current 4 lane configuration. The final phase
will be the final lift (or layer) of asphalt which will cover the
temporary striping and then final striping will be completed.
Based on the current construction schedule and the need to perform a
complete traffic study before completing any conversion, a lane
conversion from 4 to 3 lanes will not be completed as part of the
current construction project. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of
a three lane configuration, current data needs to be collected. This is
not something that would be representative of the functionality of the
roadway if the data is collected while it is under construction. Data
will be collected after completion of the project and when MSU is in
session to further understand the effects of this change. It will then
be scheduled for discussion with the Transportation Commission and City
Council. This is a very complicated issue with regard to determining
the effects on current and future traffic patterns and is not something
that should be rushed.
