IPPSR Policy Forum Series Announced! Energy Policy Forum Kickoff, January 25...
Dear Colleague:
Please accept this invitation to join us for discussion of timely, policy-relevant issues facing our state during the 2006 IPPSR Policy Forum Series.
The 2006
IPPSR
Policy Forum Series will kick off on Wednesday, January 25, 2006. Entitled
Curbing Energy Costs
in a Cold
Weather, Commuter State,
the
first forum in the series provides an opportunity to learn about
Michigan's energy choices now and
for the future, proposed policy for energy efficiency and renewal, and new and
exciting research being conducted on energy technology. This forum and the
entire series will be held in downtown Lansing, across from the Capitol at the
Anderson House Office Building, Mackinac Room (fifth floor). More about the
topics, dates, and time is provided below.
In its 14th year, the IPPSR series of forums will continue to serve
as a venue for meeting people with similar interests and learning of new
information resources, as well as expressing your point of view. It brings
together a network of campus faculty, policymakers, capitol staff, and policy
advocates. Current policy-relevant research is discussed, perspectives are
exchanged, and solutions are cultivated.
I hope that you will be able to join us. We are not setting up vendor tables,
but would be happy for you to distribute information about upcoming activities.
Feel free to call or email if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Douglas B. Roberts, Ph.D.
Director
Institute for Public Policy and Social Research (IPPSR)

International Immigration to Michigan
April 19, 2006 - 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This forum will separate immigration facts from fiction, review policies and state-level services, and look at the effect of immigration on Michigan's demography.
FDA Approved Immunity in Michigan
May 3, 2006 - 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Under current Michigan law, residents cannot sue any pharmaceutical company whose drug has been approved by the FDA. While the intent is to keep drug companies out of state court rooms, prevent frivolous lawsuits from causing an increase in the cost of such drugs, and to retain pharmaceutical drug-related jobs in Michigan, some see it as a threat to consumer safety.
