Pearls of Neighborhood
Wisdom
by Doris Siegmann
- Reminder: Pearls are formed when an
oyster reacts to an irritation!
- A peaceful, safe neighborhood with happy
people is worth working for. Differences of opinion are the norm.
- Participate in the raising of children -- talk
to them, welcome their treasures, and let them play in your yard or wander
through. If you have childrens' books, give children access to your
"lending library."
- Lend tools and don't be afraid to ask others
to borrow theirs.
- Every now and then, share something with a
neighbor -- something you've baked, a skill, a talk, a book, etc.
- Can't remember someone's name? Carry 3 x
5 cards and write down pertinent information and phone #s to recall later.
Keep them handy.
- Take a walk with others who have a
group, or start a new one.
- Ask for help. Chances are you each
benefit. For example, ride to the store together. Keep each other
company and save gas!
