Pearls of Neighborhood Wisdom
by Doris Siegmann

  1. Reminder:  Pearls are formed when an oyster reacts to an irritation!
  2. A peaceful, safe neighborhood with happy people is worth working for.  Differences of opinion are the norm.
  3. Participate in the raising of children -- talk to them, welcome their treasures, and let them play in your yard or wander through.  If you have childrens' books, give children access to your "lending library."
  4. Lend tools and don't be afraid to ask others to borrow theirs.
  5. Every now and then, share something with a neighbor -- something you've baked, a skill, a talk, a book, etc.
  6. Can't remember someone's name?  Carry 3 x 5 cards and write down pertinent information and phone #s to recall later.  Keep them handy.
  7.  Take a walk with others who have a group, or start a new one.
  8. Ask for help.  Chances are you each benefit.  For example, ride to the store together.  Keep each other company and save gas!
