Festival of the Sun:

There was discussion of a valet bike corral and the liability issues regarding an event that concludes after dark. Discussion then changed to the idea of a grant funded bike parking organization that would be available for local events. There was discussion of local storage for this type of equipment, who would manage this activity, and if there was a need for this in the city?

Permanent bike parking was discussed and incorporation of these facilities into the new master plan.

Marketing of PTO at FOS

It was determined that no booth space is available at this years event. However, a media plan was discussed and this should be discussed in detail at the next meeting with the outcome being a PR plan for the committee. Suggestions included partnering with organizations that have a distribution route already; City Pulse, YMCA, and making this a group distribution for the agencies represented within PTO.

Jessica and Jon will design a handout for review at the next meeting.

Planning Active Communities

LeRoy is asking for an initial review of the checklist by committee members and do a city wide submission for this year as opposed to neighborhood submission. LeRoy will send the link for the checklist out to the committee.

Bike Parking on Michigan Ave.

Several business owners would like racks, how do we approach this topic?

Two types of funding through TCBA; DALMAC and club funds. Also, can be purchased through salvage and placed on private property. Andy Kilpatrick knows of one rack that could be donated and placed on private property at this time.

Nancy K. requested sites for upcoming Safe Routs to School. Need a venue that is large enough for the training but also need an area that can be audited for a hands on learning experience.

Ken mentioned a promotional opportunity for the committee at the South Lansing Community Showcase. This event generally draws 2000 visitors.

Jessica was inquiring into the bicycle helmet giveaways. Michigan Trial Lawyers are the lead agency for these and the Lansing Traffic Safety Council as well.

Jon mentioned that we need a representative from TCBA at these meetings and that may mean to meet at another time. He said a direct link to this group would be beneficial.

Next meeting is Wednesday, July 26th, 10 am at Allen Neighborhood Center.
