"Four-lane roadways often generate excessive speeds and significantly discourage mobility for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users. When the number of road lanes is reduced from four to three and left-turning and cycling lanes are added, vehicular capacity remains the same, auto speeds are lowered, safety is improved and the number of pedestrians increases."— Dan Burden
