THANK YOU
Thanks to all of you who’ve written, called, testified, and e-mailed your support for a more walkable and bikable Hagadorn Rd. I’ve posted many of your comments on the web at http://www.re-news.net/marble/hagadorn.htm and many also appear in the “Final Report” of a City study (http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/citygov/works/HagadornRoadFinalReport.asp) in August.
HELP STILL NEEDED! HERE’S WHY…
A well-organized group of vocal residents showed up at a recent public hearing voicing opposition to the “Road Diet.” While it’s certainly understandable folks might equate fewer lanes with increased congestion and cut-through traffic, two MAJOR studies reveal improvements in safety, pedestrian & bike-friendliness, affordability, and—yes -- TRAFFIC FLOW. Average daily car trips on Hagadorn are 1000-4000 LESS than the level at which roads that “may start to experience and increase in cut through traffic and congestion.”
PLEASE HELP!
The large outcry has made policymakers seem hesitant about moving forward. The Transportation Commission (TC) may vote next Monday! If you have a moment… please consider stopping by the meeting to voice your courteous expressions of desire for a more walkable, bikable, accessible, and safe community (or whatever else you’d like to say). The meeting is Monday at City Hall on Abbott at 7:30 pm in Courtroom B. TC usually takes public comment before the meeting so you might only have to stay 30 minutes or so.
